For my first blog post i’d like to share with everyone some idea’s and articles to read all aimed at escaping ” the system “, chasing your dream and living a life of adventure. When I meet people and tell them I do not live anywhere and I bounce around the place to where ever I feel like being from day to day they always ask me how?
How can I afford to live like this?
Don’t I get sick of not having my own space?
What about saving for retirement?
I am not going to answer those questions exactly, because this blog is not about cheap travel etc, though I would like to encourage smart ” Lifestyle Design” ( if you want to give it a term) to some extent and point you in the right direction!
First I must fill you in a bit on the lifestyle I have ” designed “ for myself. A lot of my friends don’t know this, but I actually planned to live this way years before I managed to make it happen, as well as get the courage to escape ” the system ” of the ordinary 9-5 grind.
Last year I managed to only go to work 17 weeks, Yes that was 12 hours a day, 7 days a week… But it was only 17 weeks in a whole year! For the rest of the year I pretty much did what ever I felt like at the time. I flew over seas for the first time, I traveled around Europe, had an apartment in Ibiza with a music studio set up .I experienced a new style of living. I met some of the most amazing people ever. Took on a new style of thinking and a much more positive outlook on life and the choices I make. I managed to get offshore for work which was a goal I had had for years. But most of all I realised some dreams I had earlier in life were much more achievable then I originally realised. With my flying for work and recreation I managed to get platinum frequent flyers… the year before I never would have believed this would be something I would obtain in my life, as silly as that sounds!
I have set myself up so I keep as organised as I possibly can, knowing what needs to be done, and when by. I then allocate the best time for each task to be done, and make sure I do it! I automate things as much as I can, use technology to the best of my advantage and outsource to others when it makes things easier. This allows me to come and go so freely, if all the little “chores” in life are done then there is nothing to stop you from going out and having fun!
I sold most of my belongings, I now make smart decisions when it comes to materialistic purchases. Living out of a suit case helps this, but it is something I am far more conscious about. This means my money goes towards insurance, phone/internet, eating, travel, then toys, gadgets and tools to make my the traveling life more fun and easier! Finding a job that pays my living when I am away for work means I spend all my cash on my free time!
Though I am super busy working at the moment, within the next few months I will be back flying over seas to climb, jump out of planes, off objects, climb mountains and meet awesome people. When I am tired from that, I will be editing all the footage and sharing my experience with you all!
I know this lifestyle isn’t for everyone, it has its downside being away from friends and loved ones, not being able to plan things well because you don’t know where you will be when. So that is why the links below are more towards thinking out side the box with your life to get out of ” the system” . AKA “the 9-5 grind ” and spend your time traveling or what you wish to do most!
First, let this be some motivation to help you think outside the box when it comes to the methods you use to make money. Why would you want your income to relate to the hours on a clock? Find more creative ways to use your time and source income! 10 Reasons Why You Should Never Get A Job I am not quite there at achieving exactly what this article suggests, but I am close enough!
If travel is your thing then look no further then www.nomadicmatt.com This guy is a legend, he is killing it with his books and website on cheap travel and blogging. There is countless articles on how to save, then spend your money in smart ways.. Even if just on a minimum wage. He also has a lot of advice on the best and cheapest ways to get around the world, along with the rules and regulations of visa’s etc!
If you are after some serious reading ( instead of a few articles on a website) then check out this book – The 4 Hour work Week. I actually only just got told about this book the other day, I have not finished it yet but I all ready know it is my style of thinking!
A lot of people love going to their 9-5 job, coming home to their partners and living the repetitive life and I think that is rad, I just made this article for people who are interested in finding ways to opt out!
Let me know your thoughts or if this helped you in anyway!
